Stephen M. Hoyle assumed the duties as the Deputy Director, Strategy and Plans Division, Plans, Policies and Operations Department, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, D. C. in December 2024.
Mr. Hoyle graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Louisiana State University and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in May 1987. Serving with the Marine Corps on active duty for over 28 years, he retired as a Colonel in September 2015, while serving as the Branch Head for the Information Operations and Space Integration Branch (PLI), Strategy and Plans Division, Plans, Policies and Operations Department, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps. Highlights of his career include service as a Bombardier Navigator in VMA(AW)-332, a Forward Air Controller with Battalion Landing Team 3/8, a Weapons and Sensors Officer and Weapons and Tactics Instructor in VMFA(AW)-332, the Aviation Combat Element Integrator within the Marine Corps Combat Development Command, a subsequent tour as the Operations Officer for VMFA(AW)-332, a senior plans officer for CJTF-HOA, the MAG-31 Operations Officer, the Air-to-Air Weapons Requirements Officer for the OPNAV N88, the Commanding Officer for H&HS MCAS Cherry Point, the MARFOREUR G-3/5, and the PLI Branch Head.
Following retirement from active duty, Mr. Hoyle supported a sensitive activity within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security for 3 years, then managed a sensitive activity for the Department of the Navy for over 6 years.
His personal decorations include 2 Legions of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, 4 Meritorious Service Medals, 5 Strike Flight Air Medals, and 2 Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals (1 with V).
